Jam filled candies have been very popular with children for a long time now. In some places of the world, jam is known as jelly even though the two are distinct. Jam comes in various flavors and children love to have some jam on their bread for breakfast. It seems to go with almost anything that needs some sweetening. Jam has found its way in pastries, ice-cream, lollypops, chocolate candies and many other things.
One of the reasons why jam has turned, so popular in candy is because jam is available in a variety of flavors, right from orange marmalade to strawberry to mixed fruit and the list goes on.
Jam filled candies being soft centered candies are a little expensive as compared to normal hard candies. The joy that is in chewing a jam filled candy while you patiently suck on the sweet hard shell, at a time when you least expect it, the shell collapses and the gooey jam oozes out and fills your mouth. The delight that you have from going from hard candy to the soft jam when you least expect it, always comes as a pleasant surprise to your taste buds. There are some though who like to directly bite into the candy to intensify the candy's taste by chewing on the hard candy and sucking on the oozing jam at the same time. The jams used in candy is used either with the intention that it should complement the taste of the outer shell of the candy or match the shell in taste. For example: a mint flavored jam would complement a chocolate candy and an orange marmalade jam would match the flavor in an orange candy.
There are even soft chewy candies which are jam filled; some of these are in the form of chew toffees which are jam filled with the essence of certain nuts and some flavored chews, like mint, strawberry and orange come with a jam filled center that either compliments or matches the taste of the chew.
So, if you are looking for some candy that you would like to enjoy on a long drive, then some jam filled candy will work on you like a pacifier.
